Be it House, Acid or soulful Techno – Iron Curtis has made some dope records over the last ten years and is part of several collaboration projects like Achterbahn D’Amour and Moon. Enjoy!
Hello Johannes, how are you and what have you been up to recently?
I’m well, thanks! I read about Dyson spheres, Matroshka brains, and recent discussions about Bostrom’s simulation theory. Ask me about any hypothetical megastructure, and I’m sure you’ll wish you’d never have asked me about it in the first place.
You live in Berlin. How would you describe the situation there at the moment?
A couple of friends got vaccinated already. They can now communicate via 5G.
I got through the past year more or less ok: I’m in a privileged position since I have a day job, a relatively affordable apartment and a studio for hiding from the outside world. However, I have many friends who struggle severely – they do music full time, are self-employed or have their own shop or amll business. I hope it will turn out ok in the end – for everyone out there.
What excites you besides electronic music?
Doom metal and dressings! As a kid, my granny asked my brother and me to assist her in the kitchen. And I was commanded to do the salad dressing. That’s how I got into it. Natural wine has been all the rage in the past years. But vinegar will step up. Remember: there’s so much more to discover than your ordinary Balsamico!
Anything coming up you want to share with us? Any shout-outs or final statements?
There’s a string of new releases for DBH-music lined up, another LP with my friend Johannes Albert (Moon III) is due and various label anniversary compilations I contributed to (one of which will features a one-time revival of Achterbahn D’Amour).
Besides that: Stay alert, comrades!
