ITPS039 SOLID BLAKE

With strong support from Modeselektor and Dj Stingray, Solid Blake is definitely one to watch. We met her at the Modeselektion night at Blitz in Munich and there the idea for this mix was born. Enjoy!

Hello Emma how are you and what have you been up to recently?

Hi I’m good thanks! I’ve been very busy balancing music and work projects with playing on the weekends. Recently I’ve committed to a few remix projects which I’m really enjoying, because they keep me active with producing in between whole releases and gives me a nice insight into other people’s work. It’s just a nice and comfortable way to collaborate for me right now.

You live in Copenhagen. How would you describe the city and music scene there at the moment?

I’d say that it’s thriving at the moment, but also that I’m probably not the best person to describe it–I barely go out any more when I’m home. But I am really enjoying seeing the creative endeavours of a lot of my friends getting some circulation and recognition. It’s a good place with good people. For me, Copenhagen has become a place where I can chill through the week and work on quieter pursuits.

Why did you move there after growing up in Glasgow? And how are the two cities compared to each other?

I moved originally for my masters 7 years ago, met a lot of friends and just really liked the place, and soon it became home. Right now I’m waiting to hear from the government about my application for permanent residence, which is causing a little bit of stress, but all things considered it should be fine. I do love Glasgow though, and some of my best friends are still there. I grew up with a very healthy music scene, and it’s where I learned the foundation for everything I do now. It’s become one of my favourite places to play because the crowd tends to be up for anything, and on a more personal level when I go back I enjoy witnessing the changing parts of the city as well as enjoying revisiting those things that stay the same.

What annoys you or has pissed you off lately?

Gmail’s over-zealous spam filter has caused me some grief.

What excites you besides music?

People 🙂

Anything coming up you want to share with us? Any shout-outs or final statements?

Next thing I have coming up is my remix of the lovely Tred’s ‘Disconnected’ on E-Missions, which should drop around the end of this month.

Shout-out wise, I suppose there are a few already included in the mix; a new belter from Impey forthcoming on his Ghost Notes imprint, something coming soon from my pals at Mechatronica, and a new and incredible number from Aquarian, who has always been very kind in sharing his unreleased stuff with me. I was also actually told off recently for promising a shout on the radio and then forgetting, so I should definitely mention the team at De School who are very good at looking after me and making me feel at home.
