ITPS038 HUGO MASSIEN

There is not much information about Hugo Massien online. We came across him through dope records on Tectonic, XL Recordings and E-Beamz. Enjoy!

Hello Hugo how are you and what have you been up to recently?

I’m well thanks. Alongside music, I develop audio software, and am currently working on a new synthesizer. This has been my major focus in recent months. I have been spending the rest of my time studying various forms of yoga and Soto Zen meditation.

There is not much information about you online. Where are you from and how would you describe the city and music scene there at the moment?

I’m currently based in Berlin, via Bristol. Of course there are many talented and dedicated creatives here, which is massively inspirational. That said, though many of my network are producers, my output over the past couple of years hasn’t eminated from a particular scene – I have been working nomadically.

Some sensational music has been released over the past couple of years, but no wider movement has captured my entire focus. What I am most interested in are the moments of fusion that give rise to explosive and pioneering exploration of new musical realms. These are the moments in music that are truly magical to witness and be a part of.

What annoys you or has pissed you off lately?

My phone and computer are both old and are dying slow deaths. They’re giving me all kinds of minor grief but it builds up like chinese water torture.

What excites you besides music?

Outer space, consciousness, contemplation, human connection.

Anything coming up you want to share with us? Any shout-outs or final statements?

I am aiming to release my debut album in 2019, which feels like a big milestone for me as an artist, and will symbolise an important moment in my work. The project will conclude a stylistic phase of my production, and be a springboard from which I will go on to explore new areas.

In audio software, I am soon releasing a new bass synthesizer with Future Audio Workshop. A huge amount of work has gone into it so I am very excited to release this instrument to the public. It is extremely fulfilling to be able to play a part in bringing music production to more people in this way.

Lastly, shout outs to everybody that is reading these words and that takes the time to listen to the sounds. Your time and attention is not taken for granted. I hope you enjoy the mix.
