Ploy released his first record on Batu’s label Timedance in 2016 followed by 3 more records for the label and also releases on Hessle Audio and Hemlock. He is one of the most exciting new producers from the UK and we hope you enjoy his contribution to our podcast series!
Hello Sam how are you and what have you been up to recently?
Hi, I’m good thanks. Bits and pieces, the usual juggle of writing music, playing some fun gigs and holding down a day job. Trying to focus and get lots of writing done now though, time is ticking and we’re already half way through 2018!!
You grew up outside of Bristol, but you live in London. Why did you leave the Bristol area and what made you move to London? How would you describe the city and music scene there at the moment?
My girlfriend moved to study actually so my plan was to join her, but I’ve had friends here for a while so seemed like a nice time to move, timing and living arranges etc worked out nicely.
I enjoy being in the city mainly for non music related things like having an abundance of places to eat and things to do, of course as well as a handful of good clubs and party’s. As for the music scene its feels a lot more isolated in comparison to Bristol i’m not really that involved with anything specific to London. But yeah there’s some cool club nights to go to when i get the chance, Make Me, No Symbols etc, are a couple highlights.
You are one of the core artists of the Timedance label. How did you guys meet?
At university, i think it was actually at an afterparty at mine one night when Batu was fresh on the scene in his first year.
What annoys you or has pissed you off lately?
I bought a round (only 3) of ice creams the other day and it came to SEVEN POUNDS i was expecting maybe £3 or at least no more than fiver. I should’ve left them out of principle.
What excites you besides music?
Great tv programmes / documentarys. On the whole though I’m not that excitable.
Anything coming up you want to share with us? Any shout-outs or final statements?
The New timedance compilation is out 25th May!!
